My First Real Job and What It Taught Me

What you learn in your early career never goes to waste.

Right after graduating with a degree in Information Science Engineering from Bangalore, I joined our family business, C-Soft Consultants, a boutique consulting firm based in Delhi.

Though I started as a developer, I quickly found myself wearing multiple hats, supporting sales and marketing, managing client materials, and even coordinating print media. (Yes, back when printing visiting cards, brochures, and banners was still the norm!)

Our clients included some of the largest publishing houses: Penguin Random House, Hachette Book Group, Scholastic and it was here that I got my first real exposure to the world of publishing, printing, and copywriting.

Looking back, here are a few lessons that have stayed with me forever:

🔹 Start small, but think big

🔹 The art of selling is always valuable, no matter your field

🔹 Build multiple skills early, they compound over time

🔹 Take risks. You never know which door it might open

🔹 Relationships over transactions, especially if you’re in it for the long haul

A Thought for You

If you’re reading this and are starting a new job, firstly enjoy the process and secondly create memories.

Ask yourself: How can I make an impact through my new job?

Capture that answer. You’ll thank me later.
